In Japan, IHGANA Hotels Group was established in December 2006 as a joint venture between IHG and ANA - Japan’s leading airline. IHGANA is the leading hotel operator in Japan with 33 hotels operating under three brands: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, ANA Crowne Plaza and ANA Holiday Inn.

We are current seeking a Human Resources Director - Japan to be based in our Tokyo corporate office. This role acts as HRBP for corporate colleagues based in Tokyo office and in partnership with hotel HR leaders is responsible for approximately 4,000 colleagues within the managed hotel estate in Japan. The role leads a team of 1 direct report and is supported by 3 colleagues working in matrixed Centres of Excellence. This role leads 5 Area Directors of Human Resources. Japan 2018 revenue estimated at $875 million USD with GOP of $226 million USD

Reporting to the Head of HR Operations Australasia & Japan and working as part of the wider AuAJ HR team, the HR Director Japan is responsible for partnering effectively with the Head of Japan and the Japan Leadership team ( which includes Global Finance, Global Technology, Commercial, Global Communications and BRR) in region whilst supporting the key EMEAA HR priorities of Organisation, Talent Development, Learning & Development, Winning Culture & Reward through the people agenda for Japan. This role partners in developing and, is responsible for, delivering the HR strategy and aligning HR service across the Japan estate.


Ideally you will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business or Human Resources or equivalent experience

Japanese Language Skills

Minimum of 10 years of experience in HR or operational roles with increasing breadth and complexity

Strong leadership abilities to influence cross functional and work as enabler in a complex matrix structure within global organisation

Agility to learn and implement change with speed

Experience in regional roles working across complex and diverse cultures and market conditions

Good understanding of Employee Relations and local market HR practices & policies in the operating market

Excellent business and credible financial acumen that will enable an effective business partnering role with key stakeholders

Ability to work effectively with employees across diverse cultures

Strong business partnering skills

Strong impacting and influencing skills

Fluent verbal and written English

Experience in service related industries, ideally hotels. This role requires immediate & significant operational efficiency overhaul for hotel operations would be desirable
