This challenging role will oversee all functions of the Conference/Conventions Services Department. You will direct the day-to-day activities of the conference/convention services team and ensure the staff is properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions.

This position schedules conventions and business group activities and coordinate with other hotel-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients and conducts banquet and catering facility tours with clients. You assist clients with menu planning, food and beverage coordination, table arrangements, decoration options, etc. and arrange all details of conventions to include room set-ups, staging, lighting, audiovisual, traffic flow, menus, décor, entertainment, group room blocks, VIP services and approved method of payment.

You will negotiate food and beverage prices, function space, and hotel services within approved departmental booking guidelines and plans and conducts pre-event and post-event meeting with clients and catering staff.

  • Lead, train, & mentor a staff of 5 ConventionServices personnel including hiring, coaching development, performingevaluations, disciplinary actions and terminations

  • Professionally represent thedepartment and the hotel by participating in and or conducting client andindustry functions (site inspections, BEO, Resume, pre and post-conventionmeetings, and industry events, client entertaining etc.)

  • Develop and maintain positiverelationships with vendors and suppliers who provide services to theconvention groups and to the hotel .

  • Maintain close workingrelationship with Director of Group Sales and Director ofCatering to ensure revenue maximization in all hotel banquet/meetingspaces.

  • Ensure quality standards aremet in areas of customer service and satisfaction.


Requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in marketing or related field or equivalent, and 3 years total experience in a catering setting or related field, with direct supervisory experience over a sales/catering team, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. You must have the ability to travel to attend workshops, tradeshows, conventions, etc. May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. An alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card, may be required by local or state government agency, is also necessary.
