InterContinental Hayman Island Resort in the Great Barrier Reef is an ultra-luxury private island resort currently undergoing restoration and construction works. Whilst the resort is not open to guests until mid 2019, we are seeking engaged and motivated professionals to be a part of our rebuilding and reopening team. We currently have an opportunity for a casual Deck Hand to join the team on island for this exciting journey, and be a part of the Purchasing Team ongoing based from Airlie Beach.

Your day to day
If you'd like to embrace a wider world of experiences and opportunities, we'd like to welcome you to the world's most international luxury hotel brand as a Deck Hand in our purchasing team; a key role based off island who will support the Vessel Master with the transportation of all goods to ensure timeliness and the highest standards of delivery are maintained.
You'll be a healthy and enthusiastic individual who can communicate easily with both your fellow team members and assist with the receipt, issue, storage and transfer of all goods.
Your key duties and responsibilities will also include;
Inspect safety equipment and report any deficiencies to the Master.
Manage the deck activities of the vessel during preparation for departure and mooring at the end of the shift.
Responsible for assisting the vessel Master to ensure the vessel is operated safely and efficiently and is presented to its best possible standard.
Function as a hostess/host as required where required.
Assisting with Deck Hand duties across the wider Resort operation and guest services space as required.
What we need from you
Ideally, you will have 1-2 years of previous experience in a deck hand or coxswain role with exposure to working with industrial vessels and be looking for an opportunity to grow your career and get exposure to a resort environment or global brand. Holding your current first aid, CPR and O2 provider, you will be comfortable working on board boats for long periods of time and having guest interaction. Knowledge of the Whitsundays and local surrounds as well as exposure to a Resort environment is desirable but not essential.
Flexibility to work a varied roster including weekends and shifts requested with short lead time in order to support the operation alongside holding Australian work rights is also a must.
Please note, the resort is currently a construction site with strict policies in place, including drug and alcohol policies, to ensure the health and safety of all team members.
