Your day to day

The User Experience Architect within the UX Studio will help drive the digital experience design of IHG’s family of branded responsive websites, contributing to strong brand awareness, desirability and improved usability for our guests. Our ideal candidate has a passion for creative problem-solving with multiple techniques at the ready to uncover guest needs, wants and opportunities, and the communication skills to present ideas effectively to business and technical audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead user experience strategy and design for IHG websites, applications, e-commerce

  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to create innovative, accessibility-compliant user interfaces

  • Create design briefs with product management and roadmap goals in mind

  • Lead brainstorming workshops and collaborative design meetings with stakeholders

  • Collaborate with creative counterparts to activate product strategies for digital experiences

  • Approve design comps and overall design direction, sometimes directing external agency partners

  • Create user flows, wireframes, site maps, and prototypes for digital experiences

  • Define and maintain global user experience standards; work with other team members to develop standards for UX/UI; follow and update UX pattern library and design systems

  • Throughout the lifecycle of product development, provide review and feedback to technology and QA teams as needed

  • Attend and contribute to peer review sessions and team meetings

  • Stay abreast of new techniques, trends and competitive set products

  • Initiate, conceptualize and lead user interface design based on a thorough understanding of IHG’s hospitality service functionality and usability.​

  • Communicate user interface design implementation to technology teams in the form of detailed specifications and design documents.​

  • Design user interfaces that are consistent with IHG’s brand strategy.

What we need from you

Education Bachelors or Masters Degree in Human Factors Psychology, Instructional Design or a relevant field of work, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Experience Bachelor's degree in a design or marketing-related discipline. 8-10 years of progressive work-related experience in digital design, 6-8 years of experience as a senior user experience architect, UX designer, or UX lead, 2+ years of experience designing for responsive web and/or mobile apps. Experience designing digital experiences for the travel industry is a plus.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with current responsive web design techniques, with supporting portfolio examples

  • Experience with enterprise-level user experience architecture and design processes; agile experience a plus

  • Demonstrated expertise defining digital user experiences using research methodologies such as heuristic evaluation, prototyping, in-lab and online usability testing 

  • Expert level user experience architecture skills using design tools such as Axure, Omnigraffle, Sketch, webflow, and Keynote to creative responsive or device-specific designs 

  • Demonstrated ability to understand target audience needs and business needs, finding the best balance and applying to creative solutions 

  • Strong conceptualization ability; facilitate and lead creative brainstorming sessions

  • Excellent presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to present and defend design concepts to decision-makers

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects or activities in a dynamic environment 

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks required 

  • Comfortable using referential authority to gain consensus amongst disparate stakeholders in the spirit of customer-centricity 

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a project team including product managers, visual designers, content strategists, copywriters 

  • Understanding of designing for Adobe Experience Manager is strongly desired
