Your day to day

The Manager, Studio Lead is a critical role in the success of UX Studio at IHG. The Studio Lead will lead UX discipline and help drive the digital experience design of IHG’s family of branded websites and applications.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a passion for strategic problem-solving and utilize a deep understanding of design to develop digital and experiential creative solutions that are on brand, meet business objectives, and user needs.

The Studio Lead will be responsible for executing and overseeing digital design teams and projects from conception to delivery in an agile environment, as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team. The candidate will guide and partner with internal teams and external agency partners alike.

Studio Lead is responsible for instituting and enforcing best practices with regards to processes, tools, and ways of working to ensure the teams are able to quickly and effectively deliver within an agile environment.

This individual must demonstrate the communication skills to present ideas effectively to business and technical audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a creative team of UX/UI designers which includes recruitment, performance management, and budget management

  • Manage creative budgets to create efficient and scalable design solutions

  • Digital studio design work intake: assisting with discover to scope and plan the work, author creative briefs, contribute to the engagement estimates

  • Set clear goals, manage project loads, and allocate resources accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met and setting up team members for overall success

  • Cultivate, inspire, guide, and develop an engaging atmosphere for learning, collaboration, experimentation, agility, and creativity, while maintaining high expectations and attention to detail

  • Help create and evolve design standards, best practices and pattern library that account for user needs and context, while reinforcing brand values and standards. Guide the team to follow and develop these guidelines to ensure a high bar of quality

  • Work with team members to identify innovative and user-centered design, methods, and practices that enhances the user experience

  • Ensure all deliverables comply with usability, content, SEO, accessibility, and design standards and strategies; and support analytics and usability research findings as well as data

  • Plan, conduct, and/or participate in user research, usability testing efforts, and competitive research, and analysis. Report research findings to stakeholders. Translate these findings into design solutions

  • Contribute as an information architect and/or designer on project. Leading by example is key.

  • Anticipate and adjust to market and industry trends/challenges to ensure constant innovation and competitive opportunities

  • Partner with internal and external implementation teams throughout the development process to ensure execution as planned and designed

What we need from you

Education Bachelor’s degree required in computer science, human factors psychology, instructional design and Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Human Factors Psychology, Instructional Design, and work-related experience.

Experience 10 years of progressive work related experience with demonstrated mastery of technical and business knowledge and understanding of multiple disciplines/processes related to the position of a UX lead, team management (performance and P&L management, mentoring, oversight), 5+ years of experience design, product management, and strategy for responsive web and/or mobile apps. Agency model experience is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing and directing teams, successfully delivering multiple creative projects at the same time, and understanding the ebb and flow of creative work.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to translate project requirements into a recommended design approach and design artifacts.

  • Familiarity with the agency RFP process and experience evaluating and selecting design agencies for digital work

  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, particularly digital agencies

  • Demonstrated ability to scope, plan and estimate complex initiatives and create implementation plans to deliver work.

  • Experience with latest responsive web design and mobile app techniques and strategies with supporting portfolio examples

  • Experience with enterprise - level user experience architecture and design processes; agile experience a plus

  • Demonstrated expertise defining digital user experiences using research methodologies such as heuristic evaluation, prototyping, in-lab and online usability testing 

  • Demonstrated expert ability to apply usability best practices in a cross channel environment (web sites, CRO, mobile and business applications)

  • Expert level UI or UX design skills using design tools such as Sketch, Axure, and/or Omnigraffle to creative responsive or device-specific designs 

  • Experience with InVision, Webflow, and/or Flinto is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to understand target audience needs and business needs, finding the best balance and applying to creative solutions 

  • Strong conceptualization ability; facilitate and lead creative brainstorming sessions

  • Excellent presentation skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into engaging, user-focused solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to present and defend design concepts to decision-makers

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects or activities in a dynamic environment 

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks required 

  • Comfortable using referential authority to gain consensus amongst disparate stakeholders in the spirit of customer-centricity 

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a project team including product managers, visual designers, content strategists, copywriters

  • Understanding of designing for Adobe Experience Manager is strongly desired
