This exciting role is the top level position in a limited service or extended stay operation. The Area General Manager will be responsible for handling a mix of limited service, full service Hotels (company owned or managed) through management of subordinate Hotel General Managers. This position will be responsible for the overall management, operation and performance of a portfolio of hotels to maximize their profitable growth and return on investment. This role will also have responsibility as General Manager of a primary hotel in an assigned geographic region and through subordinate General Managers will also develop and implement business plans for the assigned portfolio.
1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary – (Role Summary)
Directs the overall operation of the base hotel to maximize performance, profitability and return on investment by creating a positive and productive work environment and ensuring superior guest service and compliance with quality and operational standards.
Supports the overall operation of assigned hotels in the cluster to guide them in achieving their winning metrics, allocating around 10% of AGM’s schedules.
Drive Brand and value initiatives, hotels performance, and the development of people in own hotel and through the General Managers in assigned cluster.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for base hotel and cluster hotels
Develops and monitors the performance of financial and operational plans supporting the overall objectives of the hotel and cluster; develops the annual budget and business plan, and makes recommendations for capital improvements to enhance the asset and brand loyalty.
Oversees the delivery of superior services to all guests, including prompt response to requests and the effective resolution of all complaints to the satisfaction of guests.
Ensures that product quality and service standards are met in all areas of the hotels as pertains to physical appearance, maintenance and cleanliness. Establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
Oversees the development and execution of marketing plans and yield management efforts to maximize revenue generation, RevPAR and occupancy levels.
Maximizes food and beverage revenues by ensuring optimal use of banquet/outlet space and most cost-effective management of the hotel's food and beverage outlets
Fosters the development of a positive work environment for all employees. Mentors employees through formal and informal meetings, discussions and performance feedback, drives talent development initiatives as well as compliance with policies and local labor regulations.
Ensures optimum staffing levels relative to volume and productivity levels in the hotels.
Oversees risk management and compliance to brand safety standards to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, and hotel assets.
Champions the IHG brands and is a true representation of the company.
Supports all essential duties and responsibilities within the hotels in the assigned cluster.
Responsible for the entire performance management cycle of General Managers and Executive Committee members in the assigned cluster.
Conduct hotel reviews and work closely with GMs to establish and implement action plans.
Take the lead in development plans of GMs and strategic talent in cluster.
Work closely with corporate functions to leverage support for need hotels in cluster.
2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Business Administration or equivalent Required Skills –
A strong background in operating complex hotels, Multi-unit experience preferable
A strong understanding of the market, ability to deliver superior results and maximize profit.
Strong Leadership skills in managing a team and developing leaders in the assigned hotels.
An ability to manage complex relationships. Experience –
5 - 10 years of general management experience in a high level operations role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications and Technical skills - Effective communication skills needed for the purpose of interacting with guests, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the brand and the Company. Effective reading and writing skills are utilized often when completing paperwork, management reports, interpreting results, giving and receiving instructions and training. Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit and loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently. Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often.
Other Information - Ability to stand and move throughout the facilities. Ability to travel extensively to various hotels in assigned region. This position may be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
